March 23 2011
It rained heavily on 23rd of March 2011 but that did not disturb 44 golfers to battle it out in the Packaging Industries Malawi (PIM)Limited Wednesday Ball Pool Golf tournament at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).
It was yet another good day for Furkani Gani who recorded seven pars and two bogies to take his tally to 22 points just barely a few days after winning the Malawi maxi day tournament.
Gani attributed his success to his father. “I thank my dad for he has always given me the moral support,” Said Gani.
Gani forewarned his fellow golfers that they should be careful when they are playing with him this year as he intends to win all the games saying so far he has a record of three championships.
Madalo Matabwa who registered 19 points counted out Steve Chisale to settle for second position while Chisale counted out BSC Vice-Captain Donbell Mandala with the same 19 points to win the third position.
In the ladies Category, Arnes Araujo won the event with 19 points while Carol Banda trailed behind with 16 points.
Sam Chiwawula won the nearest to the pin on hole number 12 award while Adil Mojoo shot the longest drive on hole 17.
In his speech Vice Captain Donbell Mandala thanked PIM for the sponsorship and golfers for turning up despite the bad weather.
PIM Marketing Manager Nyakhoko Nsona said the company decided to sponsor the tournament to thank its customers in Blantyre.
“PIM in fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility realizes that it also has customers within Blantyre who purchase its products both directly and indirectly,” said Nsona.
Nsona assured the club and golfers that it will host another tournament at the club next year.
