PIM donates equipment to Polytechnic
July 8 2010
It is shocking that in this day and age the University of Malawi (Unima) is still using traditional methods of teaching and learning that have been used for so many years.
Packaging Industries Malawi Limited Managing Director Simon Itaye said this on 8th July 2010 when the company donated modern teaching and learning equipment to the Malawi Polytechnic‘s Faculty of Applied Sciences.
“The function is not about what PIM is giving out to the Polytechnic and how much it costs but rather a platform where we can learn from the college of their needs and see where the industry can come in and assist.
“The equipment is not enough for the whole college but we believe that it will assist lecturers in delivering subjects and students to learn presentation skills and become relevant students when they go into the industry,” said Itaye.
The Vice Principal for the Malawi Polytechnic Dr. Grant Kululanga thanked PIM for the timely donation saying the college wants to produce graduates that are relevant to the industry.
“The industry is changing in terms of technology and we want our graduates to fit in and contribute to the growth of our nation. We don’t want the industry to spend two or three years training our graduates” said Kululanga.
He said: “the equipment is expensive but if so many companies can come in to assist then all the class rooms, lecture theatre and laboratories will have state of art equipment.”
Dean of Faculty of Applied Sciences Mphatso Kandaya thanked PIM for the timely and significant donation which he said will assist both members of staff and students.
PIM donated a big projector screen, two projectors, a projector mount and a wireless access point as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the “Building Bridges to improve higher education” project. This donation is the first of its kind for The Malawi Polytechnic.
